Changing Direction

I posted this relief that I have been working on a while ago. I set her aside because I was really not that happy with her. I liked her face but other than that she was pretty boring. I need to work on better compositions with my work. I like things simple, but most of the time simple equals boring.

This is still very rough, but I am liking the direction better than before. I think I will leave the bare trees behind her head as recessed into the clay. The little pine trees in front of her face I think I will build up slightly and see how I feel with that look. Need tons more refining and I think her shoulder area is not in the right alignment/proportion. But full steam ahead!!

Black and White Angel

I made one more cast of the angel relief that I sculpted. This time I cast her in white resin. I added a very tiny amount of flesh color to the resin so that is was creamy, not stark white. Then I painted a  patina on her with acrylic paint. I entered this piece into the Black and White statewide competition at the Eccles Community Art Center. https://ogden4arts.org/ It is exciting to have a piece accepted into a show. Eccles said they had 277 entries and only accepted 175. It will be great to go see her at the opening of the show!
